What is Stretchable Fabric ?

Stretchable fabric is a textile designed to offer enhanced flexibility, comfort, and breathability. These fabrics contain spandex (also known as elastane or Lycra), a synthetic fiber that gives the material its stretchable properties.

Types of Stretchable Fabrics

2Way Stretchable fabric

Two-way (2-Way) Stretchable Fabric

  •   Also known as one-directional stretch,    this type of fabric stretches in one     direction (usually horizontally) but not vertically. Two-way stretch fabrics typically contain between 2% and 10% spandex (also known as elastane) or Lycra. The fabric can only stretch lengthwise or widthwise, but not simultaneously in both directions.

       Four-way (4-Way) Stretchable Fabric

  • Also known as two-directional stretch, this fabric can stretch both lengthwise and widthwise simultaneously. It is ideal for physical activities like yoga, gym workouts, and swimming. It typically contains between 3% and 12% spandex.


If any fabric contains a small amount of spandex, it will be stretchable, such as denim or corduroy stretchable fabrics.
